Citrus Media is a new non-profit organisation which enables under-18s to get involved with the exciting world of media production. The opportunities include film and video making, with pre and pro-production also available to get involved with, as well as music and audio programme production. The scheme has been designed so that people of all ability levels are able to get involved, with areas such as disabilities, gender and racial background paying no part in selection for a role (unless they affect your ability to do the role).
The organisation is funded by both the schools where they are run at as well as donations and grants from companies and organisations. Any profit that is made by productions produced is either reinvested into the scheme or donated to a worthwhile charity which will be named and publically advertised before any transactions are made so everyone knows where the money is going.
Many of the videos and audio programmes are based around key issues in society, which aim to inform other young people such as themselves about subjects that they really should have an understanding about. Provided through the interesting and professional media that we aim to produce, we hope to create a lasting effect with the children who watch and listen to them.
CM should hopefully inspire the students in such an exciting area and the scheme hopes to provide students with experience that they would not have attained otherwise. The best part about the scheme is that it is free to join and take part in, to encourage as many students to get involved as is possible.
The scheme was set-up in 2007 by three sixth form students at Pate's Grammar School who hope that through this organisation they can enrich many pupils lifes through giving them the following things:
- The scheme should boost their motivational skills and their confidence in themselves
.
- By working in a team (depending on their role) they will build on their leadership skills and work well in a team
.
- The student will play a vital role at informing other young people in key issues in society *
.
- They will have significant memories that they will be able to look back on in future years
Currently the scheme is being tried out at Pate's Grammar School, Cheltenham, and is soon hoping to expand into other schools and areas. If you are a teacher from another school interested in the organisation, please click here to go to our page for more information on other schools getting involved.
